How many of us have been blessed to have a caring boss? John is the director of the campus ministry at John Carroll University where I found my home for the last two years. Although John hired me as Minister in Residence, I have never felt working for him. With his resonate leadership, he listens, cares and works with me. Without his caring heart, I wouldn’t be able to find home at John Carroll University. “Hi, forks,” his strong voice always reminds me of St. Ignatius who was shorter than him and yet had an iron will to change the world. He has certainly made big differences in many lives, including me.
John and I are supposed to have a meeting every other week as a director and a resident minister. But, we never had a meeting, but a meal in which we shared the table fellowship. He is always quick to listen as quickly as he eats; he is open as honest as his height. I enjoy those moments.
John is a fisherman who loves to go to Canada for a fishing trip. He also catches men and women who want to grow in faith. In the God’s lake, he catches and nurtures men and women for others. John Carroll University without John is unthinkable!
John Scarano is the second Christ.
