“The Glory of God is the Living Man.” Irenaeus
Dear Brother or Sister in Christ:
Saint Paul says, “Glorify God in your body” (1 Cor 6:20). Since the end of January we have been training for the Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon that will take place on May 21, 2006 at 7 am. We have been doing this because we want to appreciate God’s great gift to us of body and spirit. Since last year, we have coined the term “Living Man” to refer to the team made up of members of the CPL family that participate in this event.
This year’s participants are as follows:
Dr. Edward Kaczuk (faculty member), Patrick Spicer (St. Mary) (10K);
Christopher Zerucha (Borromeo), Andrew Summerson (Borromeo), (Half Marathon);
Philip Taraska (MA Student), H. Paul Kim (St. Mary), Gregg Stovicek (Borromeo) (Full Marathon).
Probably the greatest benefit about this event is the discipline that we have had to practice in our daily and weekly training goals. Another great benefit is that we have focused on global solidarity by raising money for an orphanage run by brothers of the Missionaries of Charity in Madagascar where St. Mary’s seminarians visited last summer through the CRS program.
Therefore, we ask you, faculty members, brothers, staff, and all members of the CPL family, for your monetary support in our race for the orphans and homeless in Madagascar. Checks can be made out to the Center for Pastoral Leadership (CPL). We will also be grateful for the donation of “words of encouragement.” Feel free to write down phrases like “woo hoo,” “or “Go Pat Spicer!” on any kind of piece of paper, even scrap paper, and put them in this box. These will keep us going on the day of the race.
We appreciate any and all of the encouragement and support that you provide. Again, the race is on May 21, and we begin running at 7AM like the disciples ran to our Lord’s tomb. If you would like to come out the day of the race, please see any Living Man for location details.
Sincerely In Christ,
Ed, Phil, H. Paul, Gregg, Pat, Chris and Andrew
