Living Man 1

The Living Man
“The Glory of God is the living man.” Irenaeus

In order to prepare ourselves for the 2005 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, we have appreciated God’s great gift of the human’s sound spirit and body. As St. Paul says, “Glorify God in your body” (1 Cor 6:20), we have realized that we are called to know our gift, share our bodliness and manifest our embodied spirit through the active training and the marathon itself.

A challenging marathon is not only our personal goal but also our commitment to God’s works in our ministry as seminarians. We believe that our spiritual growth, as well as our intellectual advance, is firmly based on our physical soundness. Therefore, the living man is the way of our commitment to God’s glory through our preparation and enactment in terms of participation in the marathon.

With grateful hearts, we ask you to be our spiritual and material supporter.
We run not by ourselves but by the Spirit, in which we can run together. We are sure that your prayer and support will bear great fruit in our growth as well as in our achievement.
We will gather the supporters according to each member’s running miles. This year, we all will be challenged by a half marathon (13.1 miles), so that each member can obtain 13 people as his supporters. The supporters are going to give support in two ways: first, they are to pray for the runner, and second, they are to donate some money for the runner. This year we have decided to get a donation of $1 per mile, so that each member can obtain $13 from 13 supporters. We will use these donations for supporting life in the third world as our next plan.

We cordially appreciate your being with us and being sincere supports.
We will run on Sunday May 22nd 7AM, like the disciples who ran to the Lord’s tomb.

In Christ
The Living Man Christopher Zerucha & H.Paul Kim

Living Man 3

+ The Glory of God is the Living Man—St. Irenaeus

Welcome on board, the 3rd Living Man!

Since 2005, the Living Man has run Cleveland Marathon, glorifying God’s name through their body. Above all, the Living Man aims for the personal discipline to do good works. And the Living Man also raises money for the poor in the third world from their family members and supporters.

Something to remember …
1.    Slowly start the running schedule, adjusting your body to the schedule. (Remember that the training schedule is designed for professionals)
2.    Persevere in your schedule even though you run a half of your schedule. It will help your body build up to further distance.
3.    Run together with the other Living Man. Running is fun as well as spiritual. (Dr. Kaczuk, H.Paul, Chris Zerucha, Gregg Stovicek, Pat Spicer, John Mullee, Tim Sheridan, Louis Balzer, Adam Nestor, Steve Armour, Alex Yates, Chris Kelly…)
4.    All the training program starts on Jan. 29 regardless your types.

If you register on line (www.clevelandmarathon.com) or have any question, contact H.Paul ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , #7868).

P.S. I strongly encourage some of us who chose to run 10K to think about half marathon because we have enough time to train ourselves and running half marathon would be very different from running 10K. And you can also change half to 10K later, if you cannot.

With Peace
Living Man H. Paul

Living Man 2

“The Glory of God is the Living Man.” Irenaeus

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ:

Saint Paul says, “Glorify God in your body” (1 Cor 6:20). Since the end of January we have been training for the Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon that will take place on May 21, 2006 at 7 am. We have been doing this because we want to appreciate God’s great gift to us of body and spirit. Since last year, we have coined the term “Living Man” to refer to the team made up of members of the CPL family that participate in this event.

This year’s participants are as follows:
Dr. Edward Kaczuk (faculty member), Patrick Spicer (St. Mary) (10K);
Christopher Zerucha (Borromeo), Andrew Summerson (Borromeo), (Half Marathon);
Philip Taraska (MA Student), H. Paul Kim (St. Mary), Gregg Stovicek (Borromeo) (Full Marathon).

Probably the greatest benefit about this event is the discipline that we have had to practice in our daily and weekly training goals. Another great benefit is that we have focused on global solidarity by raising money for an orphanage run by brothers of the Missionaries of Charity in Madagascar where St. Mary’s seminarians visited last summer through the CRS program.

Therefore, we ask you, faculty members, brothers, staff, and all members of the CPL family, for your monetary support in our race for the orphans and homeless in Madagascar. Checks can be made out to the Center for Pastoral Leadership (CPL). We will also be grateful for the donation of “words of encouragement.” Feel free to write down phrases like “woo hoo,” “or “Go Pat Spicer!” on any kind of piece of paper, even scrap paper, and put them in this box. These will keep us going on the day of the race.

We appreciate any and all of the encouragement and support that you provide. Again, the race is on May 21, and we begin running at 7AM like the disciples ran to our Lord’s tomb. If you would like to come out the day of the race, please see any Living Man for location details.

Sincerely In Christ,

Ed, Phil, H. Paul, Gregg, Pat, Chris and Andrew
