St. Paul’s sisters are cloistered and no one can enter the convent without a special permission. Here I am, following the Capuchin Father who is their spiritual director, I find myself standing in their adoration chapel that is behind the tabernacle outside the church and twenty-two sisters surrounded me. I don’t remember what I said to them. I felt like the apostle Peter who didn’t know what to say as he encountered the glorified Jesus with Moses and Elijah on the mountain Horeb. Only what I remember is that the sisters were beautiful; their faces were full of serenity and deep joy. After the short talk, I greeted one by one by holding hands. It was a special moment to touch those beautiful hands and to see those radiant faces and to bless each other. And then I realized their faces were shining like Moses’.
The sisters enter the adoration chapel to converse with the Lord every day and every hour. It is their life-long commitment. No wonder why the skin of their faces has become radiant. Their inner being united with the Lord was shining through their faces. It was such a blessing to witness to the Lord’s presence in them and touch them with humility.
As the Psalm sings, the sisters know everything on the Eucharist only because they love.
“You will show me the path of life,
the fullness of joy in your presence,
at your right hand happiness for ever.” (Psalm 16)
Everything that we need to know is coming from love. Love of God and love of our neighbor. Nothing else; no one else but my Lord and my God.
