Avila Prayer Mom
Avila Prayer Moms is a group of laity that dedicates themselves to the prayer for the priests in the diocese of Cleveland. When I was ordained priest in 2007, I got my Avila Prayer Mom.
We have never met each other in accordance with the rules. But, we can correspond with letters in which I have gotten to know my Avila Prayer Mom. I am simply amazed by receiving her letters because she seems to pray for the priests all the time, especially for me. If I were not a priest, is she still praying for me? I think she would. Her faith in God is so obvious that praying for others is a part of her life.
How blessed to know there is someone who prays for you all the time! But, the truth is that we all have the one who remembers us in our highs and lows. “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of the womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. See, upon the palms of my hands I have written your name” (Isaiah 49:15-16). God is our Avila Prayer Mom whose palms have our names. And the embodiment of that love would be my Avila Prayer Mom.
My Avila Prayer Mom is the twentieth Christ.
