Are you the chief priests and the scribes who sought for putting Jesus to death?
Are you a woman who came with perfumed oil and poured it on his head?
Are you the disciples who were infuriated with her, insisting to use money for the poor?
Are you Judas Iscariot who looked for an opportunity to hand him over to the enemy?
Are you the master of the house who offered his upper room for Jesus and his disciples?
Are you Peter who vehemently said, “Even though I should have to die with you, I will not deny you” and began to curse and to swear not to know him?
Are you one of the crowds with swords and clubs and falsely testified against him and shouted to crucify him?
Are you the guards who greeted him with blows?
Are you Pilate who tried to please others, not doing the right thing?
Are you the soldiers who kept striking his head with a reed and spitting upon him?
Are you Simon of Cyrene who carried his cross?
Are you the two revolutionaries crucified with him and kept abusing him?
Are you the bystanders who looked at him without heart?
Are you Joseph of Arimathea who courageously went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus?
Are you the women who watched everything from a distance?
Among these, who are you? Look at the cross. You should be one of them because the cross tells of who we are.
But the Good News is that the story doesn’t end there. The centurion who was a foreigner confessed, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” From him, we know the story of the crucified man continues on, making us look at the cross and think of God and profess that Jesus is the Son of God. Amen.
